Relax and Smile: Sedation Dentistry in Nottingham for Nervous Patients
Feeling anxious about visiting the dentist is more common than you might think. At Sherwood Dental Care, we want all our patients to have a positive experience and feel comfortable, pain-free and relaxed during treatment. That’s why we offer dental sedation here at our Nottingham practice.
We also favour an individual approach, where we’ll listen to our patients and take your unique concerns and considerations into account.
The benefits of dental sedation
Dental sedation is a great option for nervous or phobic patients, especially those who avoid booking in for check-ups because of the condition. There are numerous benefits to dental sedation, including:
- Having a relaxed, sleepy, calm state
- Being unaware of the specifics of your treatment
- Helping manage pain
The sedation won’t send you fully asleep – you’ll still be able to talk to your dentist, but you may not remember what went on once your treatment finishes.
When would you recommend dental sedation?
We offer dental sedation to nervous or phobic patients. We’re experienced in treating a range of patients of all ages and dispositions, and can often identify who would benefit from the treatment.
How else can I help ease my fears?
Familiarising yourself with our friendly team and welcoming clinic can go a long way in making you feel more comfortable. We also recommend bringing a friend with you or having music on during your treatment. Finally, booking an appointment at a quieter time, such as early morning when it’s less busy, can help you feel calmer.
Are there any risks?
Any kind of anaesthesia carries a risk, but this is minimised through an experienced dentist. There are certain people who we may not recommend dental sedation for, however, including those who are obese and those who have obstructive sleep apnea.
How is sedation carried out?
We use IV (intravenous) sedation, where the sedation drug is injected into a vein. The level of sedation can be adjusted during your treatment. Dr Vitesh Patel himself carries out our sedation treatment.
